    Milan, Italy, The Associazione Italiana Acquerellist (A.I.A) was born in the early 1974 in Milan, when a few painters decided to promote the ancient technique ofwatercolouring in order to fathom as well as to popularize its many possibilities.
    This fascinating, magical way of painting is particularly difficult as it requires spontaneity and immediacy:usually corrections mean "disaster". Moreover, the founders established that the members were forbidden to use guaches or pastels to obtain lights and the white: the paper ought to be kept untouched for this purpose.

  • Birmingham Watercolor Society

    Birmingham, United Kingdom, The Birmingham Watercolour Society was founded in 1907. Letters to the 'Mail', a local Birmingham, U.K. newspaper, suggested that there be an organisation formed which would be dedicated to the advancement of painting in watercolour. The response was considerable, and soon after the Society was born under the Presidency of Mr Walter Showell.
