Watercolor Artists

  • Leslie Allyn

    Charlottesville, Virginia

I have great resources for natural inspiration from the mountains and natural world. I prefer the organic shapes in nature, and enjoy finding them develop from my own pen and brush. I try to capture fleeting moments, overlooked miracles, and symbolic inspirations, in order to express my joy in the every day. Ambiguity and spontenaeity are also at the core of truth, and I work to create a balance between concrete reality and subjectivity. Although some of my subjects are serious, whether it be about existentialism, emotional processes, political issues, bugs, flowers, or robots, I try to keep a sense of humor about the whole ordeal.

  • Anne Chaddock

    Richmond, Virginia

"The expression of my feelings through painting is my way of communicating with others and myself. I view each painting as an opportunity to make a visual statement. It is exciting for me when my students find art approachable and an outlet for individual creativity and emotion. My paintings reflect the energy drawn from working with people, the sharing of enthusiasm for art as a form of communication and self expression."

  • Henry W. Dixon

    Kansas City, Missouri

Henry W. Dixon paints predominately in watercolor and is a realist painter in style. His subjects are people, places and things, in other words, figures, landscapes and still lifes. His figures are mainly those of children and the elderly, whose actions and demeanor seem unpretentious and natural. He enjoys capturing his figures as they really are. His landscapes are those of rocky terrain, such as the Grand Canyon Bryce Canyon, Arches National Park, etc. His still lifes take on an abstract quality when mixed with a strong light source. Depicting light on his subjects is what evokes the most pleasure in him from his paintings.
